Excellent, adventurous and fun! -
Mikey is a kid who gets in way over his head--and is strong enough and clever enough to get out of it, and to keep up with much more advanced aliens. And he saves the world. Earthling Hero is well-written with a keen eye to how kids actually act and think, and it balances perfectly on that narrow line between being a little kid and understanding the adult world. It's fast, full of action, and very exciting, but also thoughtful and charming. The characters are self-aware enough to know that they're in a pretty awesome (and incredibly frightening) situation, and to think their ways out of it. It's aimed at kids, but it's also worthy of adult attention. It's about a boy, but it also applies to girls. It's a favorite.
