a good trilogy for light reading -
The Dawning of Power Trilogy is described as a labor of love for the author. It is easy to feel that, there is a good energy to the plot, the characters develop through the storyline fairly smoothly. The occasional insertion of modern idioms into a story that is written predominantly in the more formal fantasy language is disconcerting. The creation of the villainous society that expects everyone to belong to their religion is structured so it could be construed as an attack on current Islamic extremism or the Christian Crusades, so that is well done, but those sections describing it are a little "preachy". I have read all three of the dawning of power books, and have bought the first book in the second trilogy.
