Good read but too cynical -
This is one of those "it can happen here" stories about a fascist government taking over as a response to a breakdown in social order. First a few words about formatting - I downloaded the story from Smashwords and it was a bit difficult to read. The work needs some editing as there are sentences that do not make sense, misspelling of character's names, etc. As far as the plot is concerned, as was mentioned by another reviewer, things happen much too quickly in this story and, frankly, the ending is too pat. My main problem is twofold: the cynicism in this story is evident from start to finish. Even though the "good guys" win, apparently the public is a bunch of morons who need to be "guided" and lulled into a false of security. The last couple of paragraphs say it all: we are all being manipulated and it's for our own good. Secondly, I take issue with the characterization of the "Conciliation Party" as a party of the right. Why do some people believe that cracking down on crime, dealing with illegal immigration, and dealing with welfare cheats will lead to a police state? And why do so many people believe police states are "right wing?" It is my contention that fascism, Naziism, and communism are basically the same: strong, centralized leadership, state control of nearly everything, and subjugation of the individual. A hint as to the author's political orientation is found in the following sentence: "of course like every government in the capitalist world the people, or citizens are only thrown a crumb and kept in their place while the wealth remains distributed amongst the elite of society . . ."). I would add that George Bernard Shaw, hardly what I would call a "conservative," was an advocate of eugenics and spoke in favor of what we would call today genocide.
I realize I am being a bit harsh in this review but I must be honest. I will add that it was a pretty good read, fast paced and it keeps your attention. And it was satisfying to read about the "villain" getting his just deserts . . .

But, what is going on behind the walls of the inaccessible, new generation holding centres, and who is behind the masks of the enforcers of proposition 63, R-2020, the proposition that forms the governments ideology of ‘the perfect society’.
